David is a serial biomedical entrepreneur, whose companies have raised more than $15,500,000 to date, not including an exit via acquisition to a NYSE listed company. His career has emphasized life science technology commercialization including roles with the University of Arizona Office of Technology Transfer and Office of University Research Parks, consulting engagements with Los Alamos National Laboratories and the CORE Institute, legal clerkships emphasizing issues pertaining to the corporate practice of medicine, market, technology, and regulatory research for a provider of healthcare market research, and investment diligence for the leading medical technology investment organization in the Southwestern United States. Botanisol analytics is his third startup company. It has worldwide all applications exclusive rights in the world’s most capable chemical detection system. He’s a graduate of the Eller College of Management and Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona and the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University.
James Foley
Chief Technology Officer
James Foley is a Naval Academy graduate and former director of $144 billion dollars-worth of secure IT infrastructure transactions for American Express. He has since been involved in a host of IT-supported medical technology startup companies, having been personally responsible for successful ISO 13485, FDA and CE mark processes for multiple products. James is a demonstrated, dynamic leader with over 20 years of business, technical, domestic and International experience. He’s a forward thinker skilled in maximizing people, processes and assets to support strategic objectives, transform global operations and improve business performance in rapid-growth environments. Adept at synthesizing nebulous or incomplete information into actionable plans suitable to meet current and future business needs, he’s highly skilled in leading strategic initiatives. He has a passion for developing high-performance teams and is particularly strong in managing within budgets, interpreting financial statements and incorporating methodologies to achieve maximum results. Specialties include: ISO13485, P&L Operations Management, Business Process Analysis & Re-engineering, Integrating Legacy & Emerging systems, Product Development, Team Development, Agile, Six Sigma, ITIL, ITSM, Cloud computing, POS and Loyalty development.
Kristian Marquez
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Marquez serves as Managing Principal for FinStrat Management LLC. FinStrat Management (“FSM”) is an outsourced financial department services firm providing fractional accounting, controller services and CFO services. In the role, Mr. Marquez is responsible for the overall execution of the Company’s business plan, and the identification and realization of Company product strategy and vision. Prior to founding FSM, Mr. Marquez served as President & CEO of MDAgree Inc. a provider of store-and-forward telemedicine services designed to make physician-to-physician clinical collaboration more efficient and more profitable. Prior to MDAgree, he was the Vice President and General Manager of the Clinical & Quality Outcomes department, as well as an inaugural employee, of Inovalon, Inc. (NASD:INOV). Under his oversight, Inovalon’s quality management portfolio achieved six straight years of double-digit revenue growth based on new product introductions, organic market share gains and strategic acquisitions. Earlier in his career, he held a number of senior roles in accounting and investment management services, as well as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Marquez graduated with a Bachelor of Science, General Engineering from the United States Naval Academy, and has been a Chartered Financial Analyst (“CFA”) charterholder since 2004.
Ayse Ulgen, PhD, MGM
Director of Life Science Research
Dr. Ulgen is a Fulbright and Chevening Scholar and holds a BA in computer science, a PhD in applied mathematics and biostatistics from Stonybrook University and a Masters in Global Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University. She has more than 15 years multidisciplinary experience in industry, academia, and scientific diplomacy. She is an associate professor at the Girne American University College of Medicine, and a guest lecturer at the Karolinska Institute. Her expertise includes health and science management, genetic epidemiology, data science and biostatistics. She has lived and worked in six countries and is conversant in five languages. As Director of Life Science Research she is responsible for collaborations with leading biomedical researchers globally.
Zachary S. Brooks, PhD
Director of Business Development
Zachary S. Brooks, PhD serves as the Director of Business Development for Botanisol Analytics. In this role, he develops relationships with governmental agencies, academic institutions, and private companies; drafts DOD, NSF, NIH, DARPA, IARPA, and other governmental grants; helps create and implement marketing strategies; and he represents Botanisol publicly. His worked at two Silicon Valley startups (ETrade and VeriSign) and while finishing his PhD he raised $500,000 to launch both a graduate-student tech program with Tech Launch Arizona and a research grant program for graduate students to validate their research. Dr. Brooks earned his PhD in 2016 from the University of Arizona graduating from both the College of Science and the College of Humanities. He investigates bilingual decision making and he conducts legal research for the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona. Zachary is a 2017 Flinn-Brown Fellow civic leadership program, and he serves as the North American Trustee for the World Transplant Games Federation. In this capacity, he leads the creation of a research team focusing on the benefits of transplantation and sport.
Dave Schumann
Director of Product Development
David Schumann is an engineer, entrepreneur, and writer that has managed the development and launch of products in the automotive, aerospace, oil and gas, space and satellite, renewable energy, and other technology-based markets. He received his B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Arizona, is the author and publisher of two books on consumer safety, and is passionate about developing innovative designs and ideas.
Technical areas of engineering experience include pyrotechnic and explosive devices, waste-to-energy power systems, safety restraints, batteries, satellite propulsion and sequencing, helmets and head impact protection, fire-suppression systems, radiation shielding and EMF-safety, chemical analysis, math modeling, and spectroscopy. David has worked for both start-ups and Fortune 500 companies in product and business development where he has proven himself a versatile team leader able to solve problems, manage complex information and projects, and effectively communicate within organizations and to customers.
Shay Stautz
Director of Federal Government Affairs
Shay Stautz ran for US Congress for Arizona CD 2, before withdrawing due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Mr. Stautz had previously been the Associate Vice President for Federal Relations at the University of Arizona from 2006-2017, and the Associate Vice President for National Policy at Arizona State University (ASU) from 2017-2019. In both Arizona institutions he engaged with the US Congress and key federal agencies on behalf of the universities.
Mr. Stautz serves on the Board of the Southern Arizona Defense Alliance (SADA) that engages Arizona’s Members of Congress on the Senate and House Armed Services Committees, and supports the military community support groups for Davis Monthan Air Force base, Fort Huachuca Army installation, the Army’s Yuma Proving Ground, and the Yuma Marine Corps Naval Air Station. He also serves on the boards of UA South in Sierra Vista and of the Easter Seals Blake Foundation based in Tucson.
